About the organisation
- Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s national economic development agency. We support businesses by helping them to innovate, scale and transform our country’s economy. Everyone here is critical to our mission. For you, as an experienced Pension Manager who’s looking to play a pivotal role with a forward-thinking organisation, this is an opportunity to contribute to real change.
About the vacancy
- You’ll work closely with the scheme Chair , the trustees, advisers and Scottish Enterprise to develop and deliver our pension scheme – a valuable part of our benefits package. You’ll help us shape our pension strategy by overseeing and managing our open Defined Benefit scheme, ensuring we operate efficiently, with good governance, and in full compliance with all regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- • Scheme strategy and service delivery: Everything from developing proposals to improving the quality and effectiveness of services, as well as taking a lead on delivering change approved initiatives. You’ll also contribute to evolving and implementing strategy and policy with our trustees and advisers, ensure the scheme operates effectively and meets performance and quality standards, and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Governance: As well as co-ordinating and managing regulatory and legislative compliance and scheme governance, you’ll oversee advisers’ delivery –making sure it’s completed on time and to the right standard. You’ll also act as the scheme’s secretary.
• Communications and Engagement: Developing and supporting our engagement and communication strategy, you’ll promote our pension scheme as a key benefit, so it helps to attract and retain talent. You’ll take account of scheme members’ needs, while also balancing regulatory requirements, budgetary constraints and scheme objectives.
Key Competencies
- • A high degree of specialist knowledge, including up-to-date operational and technical knowledge of defined benefit pension arrangements, scheme governance and pension regulations and legislation.
• Personal integrity is a critical requirement, given the highly regulatory nature of pensions and your responsibilities as scheme secretary. You’ll also need to feel comfortable being accountable to the trustees.
• Confidence, motivation and self-reliance, as well as effective relationship management skills as you’ll be working with senior Scottish Enterprise colleagues, the scheme Chair, trustees and advisers.
• Strategic thinking and strong analytical skills, both are crucial in a role where you’ll be identifying requirements and potential future developments or improvements.
Desired Qualifications
- Ideally, you’ll also have a professional qualification (or part-qualification) in pensions, for example: Associate of Pensions Management Institute (AMPI), Advanced Financial Planning Certificate (AFPC) or Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).
