About the Vacancy
As part of a high-performing, collaborative team, you’ll proactively manage a portfolio of around 30 companies across a range of sectors and growth stages. You’ll also attend board meetings, support and challenge growth strategies, and help improve business performance and maximise value through to exit.
Reporting to the Team Leader, Equity Portfolio, you’ll lead on equity investment management, monitoring and reporting activity across your companies.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building strong working relationships with executive teams, company boards, investors and stakeholders
- Representing our organisation, as an observer, on investee company boards where appropriate – supporting strategic decisions, challenging thinking where needed, and helping businesses manage risk and growth.
- You will also prepare papers for Investment Committee and support follow-on investments, restructures, refinancing and exit activity, working closely with external advisers where required
- Managing investments in line with our policies and procedures including approvals, valuations and compliance activity
- Working with colleagues across the team to improve how we use data and processes, strengthen value creation activity, and support businesses as they prepare for divestment and exit
Key Competencies
Your skills and experience should include:
- Significant experience working with management teams, boards and investors – gained through business advisory, consulting, corporate finance, banking or investment roles such as venture capital or private equity.
- Educated to SCQF Level 10
- Strong relationship management skills, with the credibility, commercial awareness and confidence to work constructively with company boards and investors
- Experience of, or a strong understanding of, due diligence and equity investment processes
- Â Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships
- The ability to manage complex work and competing deadlines, while bringing a practical and thoughtful approach to problem-solving
- Confidence in taking responsibility as part of a supportive and collaborative team
- Strong organisational skills and a flexible approach to work
- A genuine interest in continuous learning and in understanding the early-stage investment market and wider business landscape
- Educated to degree level or holding a relevant professional qualification in accountancy, banking or investment
Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:
- Experience working in private equity or investment portfolio management
