About the Employer

CEMVO Scotland is a national intermediary organisation and strategic partner of the Scottish Government Equalities Directorate. With a network of over 600 ethnic minority (EM) organisations throughout Scotland, our aim is to build the capacity of the ethnic minority voluntary sector and its communities.

About the Vacancy

To provide heritage funding capacity building support to the EM (ethnic minority) third sector organisations and community groups across Scotland.

Provide support to organisations applying for the Heritage Development Fund (HDF) managed by CEMVO Scotland.  This is a community grant of £100k through National Heritage Lottery Fund. With the support of training partners you will knowledge and skills build organisations to develop small scale heritage projects, manage the grant process and deliver their projects successfully.

Create Peer Networks a space to encourage collaboration, intelligence gathering and mutual learning around funding within the EM third sector.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management Responsibilities

  • To work with EM third sector organisations requiring funding capacity specifically around creating heritage projects
  • Work with heritage partners identified to deliver training contracts
  • To support the year 2 launch of the HDF through a Scotland wide marketing campaign
  • To help organisations understand heritage and how to translate that within the funding process, develop better funding application and budgets for their project ideas and submit applications to the HDF
  • To help manage and facilitate training as well as Peer Networking and ensure the EM third sector continue dialogue and share their experiences of the funding arena
  • To work closely with the Capacity Building teams to deliver effective support
  • To develop close working links with funders, statutory and public bodies to identify opportunities for EM third sector organisations to attract funding

 

Heritage Funding Capacity responsibilities

  • Create an HDF application form and easy read information to allow the EM third sector to apply for community grants
  • Create and support the development of robust systems to administer the HDF
  • Respond to enquiries made by telephone and email from grant applicants and grant holders.
  • Provide guidance over telephone/email to potential applicants regarding the eligibility of their organisation, funding proposal and to provide trouble-shooting assistance to ensure applications are submitted on time.
  • As a team, assist the Head of Operations and Resources to assess applications for their eligibility for funding against set criteria, interpreting delivery plans and budgets to provide a recommendation for the decision-making panel to consider.
  • Produce and present assessment reports for the grant decision making panel. Act on feedback and requests for additional information from the panel to inform decision making.
  • Attend meetings with trainers to ensure training and projects developed are based on organisational needs
  • Maintain ongoing relationship with award-holders, keeping track of reporting deadlines and working with them to communicate and promote their successes.
  • Support the production and analysis of data from grants awarded and produce reports to support learning and provide management information.
  • Enter and manage data in accordance with HDF policies and procedures and parameters set.
  • Ensure that the information provided on CEMVO Scotland’s website and social media platforms about the HDF are accurate, up to date and approved by the funder.
  • Adhere to data collecting, monitoring and evaluating protocols set internally and produce reports tracking progress.

 

General Duties

  • Provide regular project progress updates to line management.
  • To encourage co-operative and joint working within the EM third sector and to work with organisations to assist them in promoting good management practices.
  • To work evenings and weekends on an occasional basis as required.
  • To undertake such other relevant duties as may be required from time to time and which are compatible with the main purpose of the post and its level of responsibility.
  • To provide progress and end of year reports to the line management and to funders when requested.

Key Competencies

ESSENTIAL

  • Knowledge and at least 2 years’ experience of providing capacity building or funding support within the third sector
  • Experience of managing community grants
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills
  • Good written communication/report writing skills
  • Knowledge and experience of the funding arena in Scotland and experience of submitting project proposals to funders
  • Excellent self-management skills, working to tight deadlines, demonstrable experience in managing a portfolio of clients/organisations over a period of time
  • Commitment to the development of the ethnic minority third sector, as well as a good understanding of race equality and issues affecting the sector
  • Ability to network and advocate for EM communities and organisations
  • Successful track record of achieving positive outputs in managing projects
  • Good organisational and IT skills

DESIRABLE

  • Proficiency in using online meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
